Square Enix and Marvel Entertainment announced a multi-year, multi-game partnership today and revealed a trailer for a new Avengers game. The game is being developed by Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Deus Ex developer Eidos Montreal. It will feature a new story and “all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise,” according to a press release from Square Enix. The publisher said more details about the game will be revealed in 2018.
The partnership marks the second major game publishing deal Marvel Entertainment owner Disney has made regarding its flagship brands. In 2013 Disney also reached a multi-year agreement with Electronic Arts to develop and publish Star Wars games. There was no word on whether the Avengers game will tie into Marvel’s movie and television universe. The next film in The Avengers franchise, Infinity War, is scheduled for release May 4, 2018.
